Ola Oil Slicks Award
John and Connie Sorrie who run Ola Oils, the Inverurie-based producers of Scottish extra-virgin cold pressed rapeseed oil, took the gold prize for Most Successful Product of 2009 at the recent Grampian Food Forum Awards.
In addition to Ola extra-virgin cold pressed rapeseed oil, the company’s range also includes a number of infused rapeseed oils: garlic, basil, lemon and chilli.
The Award recognises the company which has achieved the most success with a product in the previous 12 months and this year was jointly won by Ola Oils and Dean’s of Huntly.
Speaking about the award, Connie Sorrie of Ola Oils said: “It is a great honour to win this award and we think it reflects the hard work we’ve put in over the past two years.
“We started producing Ola in spring 2008 and since then it has been very well received. The combination of a range of great tasting, local rapeseed oil, with such excellent health benefits, seems to have really struck a chord with the public as well as all our stockists, restaurants and chefs. We would like to thank them all for their enthusiasm and support.
“When we first started producing Ola, we took the decision that we would not supply the major supermarkets and have chosen to supply smaller independent outlets as well as top quality restaurants and hotels. We also attend a number of farmers’ markets across the North east. These are a great way to allow customers to sample our oils and for us to fully explain the benefits of Ola over other oils.
“In addition to our range of oils, we have been working with the Steading Bakery, Huntly to produce a range of salad dressings made with Ola. The first dressing we launched was balsamic and honey which has been incredibly well received, even through the winter months, and we will, this week, begin selling our basil and lemon dressing.”
Grown, pressed and bottled on-farm near Inverurie, Ola Oil has naturally low levels of saturated fat and is high in Vitamin E and Omegas 3, 6 and 9. Ola is free from trans fats and its high flash point makes it ideal for roasting and frying whilst its light, nutty flavour means it is great for all kinds of cooking, salad dressing and baking.
